Standards

At MCG Timber we take our product standards very seriously.

The majority of our softwood is kiln dried and graded, as well as being sourced from sustainable areas. We also invest heavily in reducing our industrial waste, as well as recycling our woodchips and wood shavings.

Our pellets and briquettes are also all sourced from sustainable sources, and being made form virgin timber with no additives applied, are the biofuel to select to become carbon neutral.

We are also members of institutions who demand high standards of business practice, including the FSC, the Wood Protection Association, and the Timber Decking and Cladding Association. Our membership with these bodies ensures we operate to the highest standards from sourcing to delivery, meaning we keep our customers happy while not compromising on our own standards of operating.

Maintaining the standards of all our products is regularly assessed through our Code of Conduct audits and our risk assessments. We complete these checks several times as year, and they incorporate all aspects of our business model, from suppliers through to our employee training. Working in this way ensures we maintain the high standards that make us the go-to timber merchant for all our customers, from repeat tradespeople to individual retail consumers.

This Pine inhabits Western Europe as well and known there as Scots Pine, however fiber of Russian Pine is better due to the colder climatic conditions. Dry summers with short vegetative periods induce Russian pine to shade brunches in early stage of bowl development. Thus, lumber recovered of logs of this specie are less knotty. Moreover, wood grain of Russian Pine is fine, dense and has excellent appearance.

Russian Pine is a large coniferous tree standing up to 90-130 feet tall and with a bowl diameter (at the breast height) growing up to 30-50 inches.

There are two closely related species commonly marketed under generic name as Russian Spruce:

PICEA ABIES. PICEA OBOVATA

These two species grow in similar environments and some dendrologist consider Siberian Spruce as a subspecies of Norway Spruce. Vast area of their longitudinal habitat spreads from Northeastern Europe through Northeastern Siberia. The Northern limit reaches arctic circle, 70°N of latitude.

Spruce is a large coniferous tree standing up to 110-180 feet tall and with a bowl diameter (at the breast height) growing up to 40-60 inches.

RUSSIAN LARCH

Russian Larch is the softwood species with properties of real hardwood. The summer wood of annual rings is wide as spring wood and it is what makes Larch strong and durable like Oak.

The remarkable properties of Larch wood has been known in Europe for centuries. The entire Italian city of Venice is propped by thousands of durable, naturally rot resilient piles. No doubt the European Larch is outstanding species, however we are offering even more superior Larch from Siberia. Its light yellow-reddish color makes rooms bright and shiny. Besides that Siberian Larch, and this is a scientific fact, possesses bactericide properties, which purify indoors environment.

The application is immense from building construction, indoor flooring and planking to outdoor siding, decking, scaffolding, garden furniture and railroad tie sleepers.

There are three closely related species commonly marketed under generic name as RUSSIAN LARCH:

LARIX DECIDUA. LARIX SIBIRICA. LARIX DAHURICA

Vast area of their longitudinal habitat spreads from Northwestern Europe through Northeastern Siberia and Far East.  Larch is a medium to large deciduous coniferous tree standing up to 80-140 feet tall and with a bowl diameter (at the breast height) up to 40-50 inches.
